for the smart Witch &#8211; is also utilitarian.\u00a0 By tradition, it should never have drawn blood, so many Pagans intentionally dull theirs.\u00a0\u00a0 An athame is used to draw a ceremonial circle around the working area to delineate where a ritual or magical act will take place.\u00a0 It is used to represent male energy in a ritual.\u00a0 It is also used to dig candle wax out of holders and cut cords.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Beltane:\u00a0 <\/strong>Also MayDay.\u00a0 May 1st.\u00a0 One of the holy sabbat days celebrating the fertilization of the land.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Blessed Be&#8221;:\u00a0 <\/strong>A greeting between Pagans, short form of a blessing that goes, &#8220;Blessed be thy feet that have brought thee to these places.\u00a0 Blessed be thy knees that shall kneel at the sacred altar of God.\u00a0 Blessed be thy sex, without which we would not be.\u00a0 Blessed be thy heart, that you might love well and without resentment.\u00a0 Blessed be thy hands in service to God and Goddess.\u00a0 Blessed be thy mouth, that it might speak the truth at all times.\u00a0 Blessed be thy eyes, that you might see on many realms.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Besom:\u00a0 (Pronounced &#8220;beshum&#8221;)<\/strong>\u00a0 A ceremonial broom.\u00a0 Brooms have long been associated with Witches and magic and are frequently used in rituals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Burning Times:\u00a0 <\/strong>The time during the 15-17th centuries when many Witches and non-witches were tortured and killed for their faith.\u00a0 Executions tallies are wildly estimated to be between 45,000 and 9,000,000 during that time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Candlemas:\u00a0 <\/strong>Also Imbolc\/Imbolg.\u00a0 Feb 1st\u00a0 One of the holy sabbat days celebrating the warming and awakening of the Earth.\u00a0\u00a0 A time of commitments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chants:\u00a0 <\/strong>Rhythmic songs and words that create a particular atmosphere and raise energy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Circle:\u00a0 <\/strong>In addition to the usual geometric defintion, a circle is a group of Pagans working together (usually open, as in anyone can join in within reason).\u00a0 It can also be the area in which they do their magical work.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Consecrate:\u00a0 <\/strong>To bless in the name of the God and Goddess and devote to sacred use.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cowan:\u00a0 <\/strong>A newcomer to The Craft.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Coven:\u00a0 <\/strong>A group of Witches or Wiccans that works together magically.\u00a0 Usually this arrangement is &#8220;closed,&#8221; as in others non-coven members do not participate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CUSP:\u00a0 <\/strong>&#8220;Climbing Up the Spiral Pathway.&#8221;\u00a0 A spiritual path developed my me and my husband in 1997 that follows the agricultural cycle of the year to manifest long term positive goals, culminating at harvest time.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecuspway.com\">Details are here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dark of the Moon or New Moon:\u00a0 <\/strong>The day when the moon is not visible in the sky, plus a day before and day after.\u00a0 Usually the 28th, 1st and 2nd day of the lunar cycle.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Elementals:\u00a0 <\/strong>Low level &#8220;critters&#8221; associated with the quarter energies.\u00a0 Gnomes live in the North, Sylphs live in the East, Salamanders live in the West and Undines live in the West.\u00a0 They are great energy forms to send out into the world to perform small tasks like finding things you need.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Full Moon:\u00a0 <\/strong>The day the moon becomes full, plus a day before and day after that day.\u00a0 Usually, this is the 13th, 14th and 15th day of the lunar cycle.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Higher Self:\u00a0 <\/strong>The state of mind when\u00a0a person enters into the Delta brain wave state and is receptive to other realms.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Invoke<\/strong>:\u00a0 To bring an unseen energy into the working circle area.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lammas:\u00a0 <\/strong>August 1st.\u00a0 One of the holy sabbat days celebrating the beginning of the Harvest season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Litha: <\/strong>The Summer Solstice.\u00a0 June 21st.\u00a0 One of the holy sabbat days celebrating the longest day of the year and the Sun&#8217;s greatest power.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mabon:\u00a0 <\/strong>The Autumn Equinox.\u00a0 Sept 21st.\u00a0 One of the holy sabbat days celebrating the balance of days between Summer and Winter and the second harvest.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Magical\/Magickal or Magic\/Magick:\u00a0 <\/strong>Alistair Crowly, an interesting and decidedly odd person from the occult past, was the first I know of to put a &#8220;k&#8221; at the end of &#8220;magic&#8221; to differentiate it from stage, illusion magic and refer clearly to magic as the movement of energy for a specific goal.\u00a0 I write it both ways and either way, I&#8217;m referring to the last definition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Merry Meet&#8221; or &#8220;Well Met&#8221;: <\/strong>A greeting between Pagans.\u00a0 Short for, &#8220;Merry meet, merry part and merry meet again.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Muggle: <\/strong>A person who does not consciously use magical energy and knows little of Paganism.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pagan:\u00a0 <\/strong>A person &#8220;of the earth&#8221; who honors nature and the energies inherent in it.\u00a0 Pagans typically lived outside of the official town borders.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pantheon:\u00a0 <\/strong>A grouping of God and Goddess aspects specific to a geographical area or tradition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Priest\/Priestess\/High Priest\/High Priestess: <\/strong>A person who practices the Wiccan path.\u00a0 &#8220;High&#8221; designates the leaders of the group.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quarters:\u00a0 <\/strong>Directional sections of the working circle set up to honor specific elements.\u00a0 Earth is in the North, Air is in the East, Fire is in the South and Water is in the West.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rut Now Magic:\u00a0 <\/strong>Working to direct energy toward a change that needs to happen &#8220;rut now.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sabbat:\u00a0 <\/strong>One of the holy days in the calendar year.\u00a0 The eight holy days are Yule, Candlemas, Ostara, Beltane, Litha, Lammas, Mabon and Samhain.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Samhain:\u00a0 <\/strong>Also Halloween. \u00a0October 31st.\u00a0 One of the holy sabbat days celebrating the end of the Harvest year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spring Equinox:\u00a0 <\/strong>Also Ostara.\u00a0 March 21st.\u00a0 One of the holy sabbat days celebrating the time of planting and new life.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WannaBlessedBe:\u00a0 <\/strong>Lame, poser Wiccans.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Warlock:\u00a0 <\/strong>An &#8220;oath-breaker.&#8221;\u00a0 One who has betrayed another Witch or Wiccan.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wicca:\u00a0 <\/strong>A religion using earth based energies that is very ceremonial and varied in practice.\u00a0 Typically, it is divided up into &#8220;trads&#8221; or &#8220;traditions&#8221; denoting the type of practice or geolography of the origin of its mythologies.\u00a0 A Wiccan is a person who follows this path. Wicca was created by Gerald Gardner in the 1950&#8217;s and then propagated by Gardner, his student, Alex Sanders and Raymond Buckland.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wicky-Wicky:\u00a0 <\/strong>A newcomer to Wicca who is just soooo excited about their new path.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Witch:\u00a0 <\/strong>A person who uses their own personal energies and those inherent in nature to create changes toward a specific goal.\u00a0 In olden times, Witches were the healers and midwives in a village.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yule:\u00a0 <\/strong>Also Winter Solstice.\u00a0 December 21st.\u00a0 One of the holy sabbat days celebrating the return of the spark of light to the sky.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is provided in case I use words that are unfamiliar to the muggles who stumble in.
